Boxy Charm November 2016

Boxycharm is a monthly subscription that retails for $21.00. Each month you get 5 full sized products. This is my third month on the subscription service and I decided to share it. This months box was great. I was so happy with my makeup subscription plus I got an item that so far hasn’t been mentioned in any video or by any blogger. So that is going to be a surprise item as that wasn’t even  mentioned in the sneak peak on any online platform by Boxycharm. This month’s theme was Groovy Town.

  1. Vintage by Illuminating Highlighter: ILLUMINATING FACE HIGHLIGHTER                The packaging is really nice and old school glam. I tried the highlight on and it lasted for quite a long time and had a nice sheen. I had never heard of the brand before the un-boxing but I truly believe this will be a great addition to my collection. The product is full price and retails for $32.00
  2. Skyn Iceland- Icelandic Relief Eye Pen: I own a couple of things from this brand from this brand. First of all this brand is vegan and I really like their Skyn Iceland Solutions for Stressed skin Lotion which is great for acne which I tend to have. I also already own the pen which I look forward to testing. This retails for $20.Icelandic Relief Eye Pen
  3. Studio Makeup Eyeshadow Palette: The cool down palette is great but a bit chalky. It did smear for me in the water line towards the end of the night. I did create a great eye look that lasted a long time. The overall value of the palette is $49.95.
  4. Crown Brush C513Peo Detail Crease: I haven’t tried the brush yet but it seems like  a sturdy brush. It’s suppose to be for the crease. The overall value of the brush is $12.99.
  5. Studio Makeup Soft Blend Blush: SOFT BLEND BLUSHThere was no inkling that there would be a possible second Studio product for certain subscribers. Its a matte shade and could also be used to contour lightly as mentioned in the card in the box. The value of the blush $17.00 Most subscribers got a lip product so this was a pleasant surprise.                                                                                            The overall value of the box exceeded the $21.00 dollar spent and was a total of $132. This months box exceeded my expectation. Yesterday I almost did a full face makeup look which is mostly impossible with other subscriptions. In conclusion this month’s box was great and well worth my hard earned money.!

Elf’s Beauty Squad

So I recently had the pleasure of utilizing the points for Elf’s Beauty Squad feature. it consisted of me getting excited and having a cart of $80 dollars worth of stuff. I was under the impression that I could utilize the points towards the redemption of some of the goodies in my basket. This was due to the the reason the page at the time said that 6 points = 1 and since I was in the A lister category I had a ton of points. The rewards was obscure and I went into the FAQS for clarification.

It was highly disappointing for me to find out that I could choose one item for five hundred points. For five hundred points I could choose only only gifts that were up to $7 and they weren’t attractive items. At the time ELF had a code that everybody could have utilized which gave three free makeup items and also magazines which was worth way MORE. The redemption codes for the Beauty Squad aren’t befitting the amount of points you need to give up. As the following states :

The first one for 150 points is okay. For 500 points you also get a gift with purchase difference is you can choose it. The 350 points gift is a mystery. 750 points helps you attain 25% off your purchase. Is it for all of ELF items? I don’t know. As new items are not part of promos or redemption’s which makes the Beauty Squad program a complete flop. This is due to the fact that ELF has regular promos for regular items for 40% to 50% off. So its meaningless to have this program and in no regards make me want to spend more money as a consumer just because I am a beauty squad member. Mind you I am an “A” Lister.

My suggestions allow your system to accept two promo codes. Change one of the promo codes, in the Beauty Squad rewards, where the consumer gets gifts. If the consumer does choose gifts for 500 points, let them choose up to $16 dollars worth of items, which is based on the value Elf gave to 150 points. The choose your sale day should encompass all your items on the website. This exception should only be done for the Beauty Squad rewards. Which also means that the consumer can choose their gifts from the new items section as well!

I did end up purchasing some goodies. Especially some new items. Let me know if you would like a review or if you’d ever used the Beauty Squad points before?

 

Experience a mouth-off, ShopRite

Ranters, not too long ago in Brooklyn, I had a mouth off fiasco. Now what does that mean do you ask? Or even be like who cares? Lolz, I can’t blame you.

I shop at ShopRite because  of the savings it provides for me. There are some weird characters lurking there from time to time but nothing that would deter me to stop buying the groceries I needed.

Now my mom and I like to recycle and we use the bottle bins where you would get the 5 cents back. YES I am ADMITTING this in public. I am the one who stands against the local Brooklyn Chinese women who refuses to donate  my trash can of plastic and glass bottles. Now that I have confessed my scarlet letter is open to the public.

Then my mom has also taught me the art of coupons. We try to use as many as possible. I have not gotten to the Krazy Coupon lady status but it does save money.

So when we got to the window the coupons got a little confusing because they were both from manufacturers and from ShopRite. That being said a middle aged guy started yelling at both my mother and I that we were cheap, we had no money and of course we were holding up the line. This made me angry and I stood up for myself by saying “if the roles were reversed I would have waited calmly for you.” A second guy got involved. Then there was also an issue being made by additional people by which method of payment we were using: EBT SNAP, Cash, or Credit Card. Apparently if you use a credit card with coupons your extremely poor. At that point I ranted and told him he could either offer the money or “shut-up”  and everybody else “could mind their own business.” Omg, Brooklynites so many people mouthing off at the same time that could led to a headache.

The cashier was also slightly off
her light bulb. We gave her the ticket for the bottle deposit and she didn’t minimize the balance but rather did a whole transaction which made our fans groan in misery some more. Supermarkets tend to have long lines in Brooklyn but this crowd was just obnoxious. I made sure when I made things clear but things got strange when the cashier turned around and said “You are a receiver” with a slightly glazed look on her face.  “IDIOT” and I walked away with my groceries. Why would she even say that as a cashier working in a grocery store?!

Wet n Wild Lipsticks

Ranters I have to convey my latest Rant on how GREAT these lipsticks are! They have been compared on YouTube to Mac Lipsticks plus they are Cruelty Free. Save the Bunnies Peeps. The cost is inexpensive $1.99 and at times 50% off at any local drugstore. Sweet!

My fellow blogger BMJ2K was very passionate not too long ago about Wet n Wild. So there will be other episodes or blogs dedicated to this brand as they have launched new items recently and were brought to THIS RANTER’S attention by Mr. BMJ2K ! Just kidding but he does like giving me the push I need to rant to my hearts content LOLS.

This brand takes it upon itself to put itself out there regarding how it represents itself and its image to customers. The ingredients are mentioned in the FAQ’a which is easily accessible. They also have a vegan list in the FAQ’s which makes them an even more valuable brand which great prices and values.

Without further ado lets begin………Here are the swatches of all the nice MegaLast lip colors that I currently own:

Lipstick Swatches

  1. 24 Carrot Gold: Its a Great summer color that is always in my purse.
  2. Pink Suga: Awesome nude shade if your looking for one. Goes with mostly all skin tones
  3. Purty Persimmon: I heard is a great dupe for some Mac shades. I have no idea which shades but I bought it anyway. You can probably do a search on YouTube for the exact shade
  4. Pinkerbell: Love the name! What a fairy tale?! Where the hell is my prince charming people!
  5. Bare it All: Oh ya going Nude is the way to go
  6. Just Peachy: is perfect lip heaven. It goes great with Lip gloss
  7. Dollhouse Pink: is NEON pink. Excellent shade for the summer.
  8. Raven Raisin is such a unique  color. Great for Halloween or if your into Wicca. Beautiful and bold for a daring look.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Beautiful lip colors all in their own right. I also want to talk about their packaging. Packaging is very cheap with the top coming off damaging my lipstick. It was upsetting since it caused the lipstick to break from the bottom like it was on a roller coaster ride. Also the lipstick does get all over the top cover like no tomorrow.  So cheap packaging is given but then again you do get what you pay for which is $1.99 BUT Wet n Wild’s Silk Finish Lipsticks is only $0.99 and the packaging is way better. So I think they can actually make their MegaLast Lipsticks packaging more durable. Jack and Jill

I ventured out in Sheepshead Bay the other day and I found this cute little monument of two little kids. It made me think of the nursery rhyme of Jack and Jill which most of us hear growing up.

I thought this was so unique in the neighborhood that I had to take a picture. It also helped that I was enjoying some burgers that day with my fellow Blogger, Bmj2k. Being that I am pro bono advertiser you can trust me when I say that their Burgers are delicious! My personal preference is the Rio Burger. One word to describe that is YUMM!

Get Lit in Brooklyn aka Glitter

Precisely as my headline or Title states I love to get LIT IN GLITTER. In glitter hahah as in makeup! I had great pleasure dealing with this business and I have to say customer service was superb. I had done my research and found out that the brand was vegan. Also the companies founder took the time to write a hand written note for me. How fab!

I was really flattered and have been trying out the new colors. I did have problems utilizing the glue I admit. Its very sticky on the lids and I find that I have to layer a lot. You have to use a brush to apply it. Its easier when I utilize it on my hand which is irrelevant since I believe its made for the eyes only. Hey, be creative use it for whatever you want! There is such a thing as body glitter.

I have four different colors of which I included the swatches from top to bottom:

  1. Couleur Vadette
  2. Cher
  3. Seeing Stars
  4. California Soul

I loved the fact that I did get three of the colors for free from this company. The customer service was great! I believe I got 20% off my whole order but don’t call me out on it because I don’t fully remember. The packaging is great for both glitters and glue.

In conclusion I might try the application again as I believe I need practice but it feels very heavy on my lids and sticky which is suppose to be normal as per the directions. I might try a different glue if my opinion doesn’t change. I do like the colors of the glitter, the concept and also the company especially their customer service.

Sephora has gone Bananas Part 2

So after that awful experience at the SOHO location I decided that I would return the Smashbox Primal water. Why should I have to settle when the product was about $35 to purchase? I deserve the best money can buy! Instead I purchased some Skindinavia sprays. I had heard about Skindinavia from KathleenLights on her YouTube channel and I also knew they collaborated with Urban Decay on their mist sprays. So I decided I would purchase their products and forego Sephora!

I went to return the product at the Sephora Joralemon location. I was with Bmj2k at the time and it was convenient to go as we were in the neighborhood. The moment I walked in the ambiance was frigid. There was no greeting and the security guard was ignoring a woman who was asking him a question. I did try some swatches for Urban Decay but decided against purchasing from Sephora and went to return. The wait time wasn’t bad but the attitude from the cashier with NO NAME TAG needed adjustment. Her greeting was hostile even though I guess I could have given her a point for acknowledging me as a client. She was slamming the Smashbox Primer like she wanted to slam it on my face. Then she asked me if I used it. I told her no but why would it matter since I had the receipt? She didn’t ask me why. So much for the Customer Satisfaction Guarantee. Meanwhile while she is completing my transaction yet again I wasn’t offered the option of redeeming my VIB points. She also gave another customer a compliment and her whole demeanor was pleasant yet condescending while she spoke to me. Thankfully the whole ordeal ended and just sealed my opinion that I should never shop at Sephora again! How is it that the culture and behavior of their employees transcends two stores? Is Sephora encouraging their employees to polarize their clients? As a profit maximizing business in this capitalistic competitive market do they care about their niche?

I was going to walk out as this incident made me believe that upper management encouraged this nastiness. BMJ2K and I were conversing about this behavior the lack of cordiality or professionalism. We were very vocal and Brooklyn about our opinions. As I was walking out I saw a manager or so I thought he was wearing a nice shirt and yet again NO NAME TAG. I guess the fact that he had tattoos all over his arms made up for the lack of a NAME  TAG. I asked him if he was the Manager and he told me he was one of them. I waited for him to introduce himself which he didn’t. I told him I made a return and showed him my receipt while conveying the rude behavior of his insubordinate. This Manager who clearly lacked focus was more concerned with why I didn’t give him a chance for a makeover. He even told me at one point that he thought “I wasn’t allowing him to help me”. At that point I told him I questioned his management and believed that the decorum of his staff was a reflection on him. Considering Sephora is a high end luxury makeup store can’t they afford to train their staff? He at that point took it upon himself to introduce himself as Gerald. In all honesty I rather call him Tattoo or Peter Pan since I suspect he probably lied about his name. His flighty behavior made me wonder how he became a Manager or was that just a claim to mislead me? Then he told me that it was a team effort and he had to talk to his coordinator. So the coordinator has more authority then a manager? That was a first! I made it clear to him that as a VIB I was offered a makeover and many free perks which I had declined as I didn’t like the service.

I mean I happen to work in a corporate environment and found his answers illogical. I told him I guess he thought I was just the average Joe but in my world the lack of name tags usually means being written up. How am I supposed to escalate my concerns to a store manager when their staff doesn’t wear name tags? BMJ2K did agree and interject that we were here to talk about the return not about a makeover or the fact that I purchase from other stores or come twice a year. Apparently that is an excuse for bad service. Why would I spend my hard earned money in a store who doesn’t understand customer service 101? I rather shop at a Rite Aid for makeup which didn’t have any snide remarks or catty eye rolling remarks. With Rite Aid it was just pay and leave no conversation is better than this wannabe sophisticated treatment!

I mean this Manager was a guy but he took things so personally and attacked me as a customer which is a BIG NO in customer service. He didn’t once apologize to me or ask me how he could address the issue. Instead he skirted the issue and made it seem like my concerns were irrelevant since I also shopped elsewhere. I am a VIP member for Macy’s, an ACE member with Birch box and also shop at ULTA. None of those stores or brand have ever exhibited such nasty behavior. Rather Birchbox I feel like has great customer service and has given me dollar points on occasion even though I was at fault. Macy’s, Ulta and Birchbox has also given me discount codes for 30% off regardless of how many times I shop with them.

Sephora get your ducks in a row. I don’t have to tolerate your cattiness. If you don’t understand as a business that your stores and staff represent your brand it wouldn’t surprise me to hear that you’re in Bankruptcy or closing down for good. Then again should I be surprised that your store is part of the LVMH group and you were pushing Makeup for Ever which is also part of the same family? Isn’t that a conflict of interest that at you SOHO location you were only pushing one brand? Do you think that ALL of  your consumers don’t have the skill sets to do their research? Sephora my suggestion is that you should do a business analysis regarding your longevity. In conclusion I don’t even care about my VIB point this mind numbing Odyssey is officially closed! I am taking my business elsewhere!

Sephora has gone Bananas Part 1

  Lately, I have been into makeup because of You Tube. You tube has helped me learn about makeup and make me comfortable enough to go into any store for purchasing. I can name quite a couple of beauty gurus that I follow but I won’t because this blog post isn’t about them.

   This is about my recent experiences with Sephora. Could it be described like a makeup world Odyssey? Perhaps but my viewers that is for you to decide.

  On January 14th I went into the SoHo New York Sephora Store. I was planning for a trip to Ireland and wanted to look glam. I needed a setting mist for my makeup. I wasn’t sure which kind I should get but I needed one immediately as my trip was in the nearby future. Surprisingly, this particular Sephora store had a Makeup Forever Boutique. I wasn’t interested as in the past I had sent Makeup Forever emails and phone calls to ask them about ingredients. I am the person that cares about what is on my face. I don’t like any animal derived ingredients such as Glycerin or certain Acids which can be derived from either beef or pork. I mean I don’t consume these animals in my diet why would I want it on my face? Or maybe it’s against my religion to utilize? Shouldn’t these big companies care about their customer’s beliefs?

    So I asked two individuals about a makeup setting spray and both ONLY suggested the makeup forever setting spray. One was a guy, without a name tag, who was nice but confused when I asked him about the ingredients. I will call him the Brunette. I looked at the ingredients and the only ingredient derived from an animal was lanolin which is derived from sheep’s wool. I said as much to the individual and he just gave me a blank stare like he was overwhelmed. He did ask somebody to come over and help me with my questions. This new guy with Blonde Hair and piercings came over. How was he a leading authority on makeup when he was wearing nothing? This was behind my understanding. 

   He started off saying that Makeup Forever was part of the LVMH Group. I was like sure I know that it’s part of the Louis Vuitton family. He was surprised by the fact that I knew what the acronym stood for. I also told him that I knew Benefit cosmetics was also part of the Vuitton Subsidiaries. Then he was told me that the European Union doesn’t allow for animal ingredients and testing. I was like I did my research and found that out recently but I didn’t understand why Makeup Forever couldn’t tell me that when I was purchasing from their website. Like shouldn’t a huge makeup giant and a French one at that take the time to train their employees about their products?  While I am conveying all of this to him his demeanor which wasn’t that friendly to begin with became downright frigid. His response “Maybe you shouldn’t buy the product then!”. I told him you know what with $40 a pop as a consumer I had a right to be picky and also to ask questions. In the end I told him I WOULD THINK ABOUT IT.

    So the Blonde’s tantrum wasn’t professional but I guess the fact that I knew a lot about makeup didn’t sit well with him. The pissing contest made me very angry. I still had only one suggestion for a makeup setting spray from a store that claimed to have more than one recommendation. So yet again I started browsing. This time another associate dressed in Black came over and asked me if I need help. NO NAME TAG CHICK was like why don’t you try “Make Up Forever’s Setting spray”. At this point I told her I found it strange that they only had one product in the store. I was like as a consumer I like more than one suggestion. Chick’s mouth fell open. She then told me that the Sephora didn’t have that many setting sprays. I ended up getting SmashBox Primal water even though the sample I had received from Birchbox had made me realize a long time ago that it didn’t match my skin type.

    I went to the cash register and even though they were so many associates it took a while for a paying customer such as myself to be acknowledged. I have no idea why one register needed three Associates. The Chick went behind the register and starred at me like I was a leper. Finally, I was called by Yadira and I told her I liked her lipstick. I asked her which brand it was. She told me it was “NYX” and I was surprised that she was wearing drugstore at work. Normally the store you work for encourages you to wear the Brand they have on display. Anyhow I had to make a return as well. That was done and then she was like is that all. I gave her the Smash Box Primal water and while she is ringing me up she is too busy talking to her coworker. Brunette from my earlier conversation was talking about how the Blonde thought I was just giving him a hard time with my questions about Makeup Forever and the Blonde had thought that I wasn’t going to purchase anything. Instead I had purchased Smashbox and they had lost a boutique sale. This was a loudly spoken conversation with a group of associate close by which I overheard. My disgust was increasing tenfold.

     Meanwhile Yadira didn’t even offer to redeem my beauty insider points. She yelled at me for not having my beauty insider card on me. I was being chastised like an unruly child even thought it was a paid purchase. I had to ask her about redeeming my points which she should have offered. While I am looking at the Gucci perfume she yelled that is 250 points. OKAY, I know I have enough points to cover that. Plus, I am not deaf YOU KNOW. I was interested in Clinique’s concealer and there wasn’t a sample in my shade. ONLY alabaster was the color they offered and I am a tan or beige which made me even more upset. I guess their main niche and market is the alabaster girls.  It seemed this specific store was only stocked on Make Up Forever. I had wanted to purchase Kat von D’s liquid lipstick and they didn’t even have all the shades on display to even try or purchase. Then Urban Decay’s single shadows were all out of stock too. Like Are you kidding me? What kind of store is this? 

   Sephora as a luxury brand ultimately failed in this transaction. I could have easily spent $100 dollars and they lost money. The consumer was treated badly which isn’t a concern. No name tags on their associates and a manager who should have appeared while I was asking these questions was absent. At the Wall Street location, the manager was readily available and even offered by the Associate who was helping me. Does that mean when I want instant gratification I should go to that store ONLY? Or as an inconvenienced customer only buy online? I guess even though it’s my money this exclusive store doesn’t cater to the greenness of my money. It doesn’t matter to them that I am also a VIB beauty insider.  Kat Von D I know you are exclusive to Sephora and I love your Brand but I won’t be purchasing because of their nasty customer services. Plus, they don’t even properly stock or display your products. Kathleen Lights is the one who introduced you into my world and that is why I really liked your brand. The other brands are readily available on their individual sites but alas Kat you have lost a customer. UPDATE: Kat Von D Does have a website now that ships products directly. I just received this news and am back to being your customer Kat. This must be a new addition to your site as last time it mentioned it was only exclusive through Sephora.

September birchbox 2015

September Birchbox 2015 (Ingredients information)

Birchbox is a subscription box that retails for $10 a month for you to try new products. Most of the products are high end. They also have a points program where you end up receiving five dollars back for reviewing your samples to redeem for full sized products. I received my September Birchbox very early. I was really surprised and excited. The box was really nice. The theme was fashioned for Birchbox’s birthday.

A little backstory; I’ve been going crazy with the ingredients in the beauty products that I utilize. I am not vegan by any means but I am concerned about having animal by products derived especially from beef or pork. Pork especially as I don’t even consume that on a daily basis in my diet. This is due to the reason that I am Muslim and practice Halal. So in my research I came to find out a lot of information which I plan to share with my peeps :). I hope this helps.

  1. Anastasia Beverly Hills: Anastasia Beverly Hills Perfect Brow Pencil - taupeThe full size retails for $23 but my sample size was 0.013 oz. I have to say that the sample should have included a spooley considering that it is a significant part of the product. I researched the ingredients and I haven’t found ingredients containing animal byproducts.
  2. 100% Pure: I like this product tremendously so far for the reason that its vegan. The scent is like vanilla which I am not a fan of but I am hoping that with the passage of time the coffee ingredients will work. I mention in my video why. Full Price Retails at $25.
  3. Raw Spirit Fragrance: I am not a fan of this sample. It is so masculine and mad me sneeze like no tomorrow. I also noticed that one of the ingredients is just Alcohol. I tend to avoid alcohol in my products. It is sort of difficult but I try as best as I can. Retail price is from $40-$90, yikes!
  4. Salon Gioje: Right off the bat I noticed that there was Keratin in the Protein mask. I was concerned due to religious concerns since  I can’t utilize products derived from pork. Thankfully the company had mentioned where the ingredient was derived from on their website. I am happy that its from sheep and also happy with the company’s transparent approach regarding their ingredients. The full product retails for $48.
  5. trestique: I received a concealer in Bisque. I believe that it would be great for under-eye concealing. I also did reach out to the company to make sure the Glycerin in the product wasn’t derived from either beef and pork. The company is fairly new and I come to find that their direct phone number didn’t work. If you email the company it does take them a couple of days for them to get back to you. Full Retail value of this products is $26.
